The Austrian state of Styria has commenced the construction of the largest agrivoltaic farm in the region, covering an area of 20 hectares with an investment of €13 million.
The project is expected to generate approximately 22 million kilowatt-hours of solar energy annually.
Christopher Drexler, Governor of Styria, stated that building the largest photovoltaic system in Styria marks a significant step towards the transition to renewable energy.
He emphasised the state’s commitment to reducing harmful emissions and ensuring a secure and sustainable energy supply.
The new photovoltaic farm is set to supply electricity to more than 6,000 households in Graz, the state capital. It features a dual-purpose design that combines agricultural and livestock activities, utilising the vast green space of the farm for farming and sheep grazing to maximise the benefits of the project.
